Beer production and Carbon Footprint.
I recently had an interaction with James Watt founder of BrewDog brewery about him calling out the country of Qatar and their Carbon Footprint.
I found that post hypocritical and in poor taste, because, according to data, beer manufacturing is bad for the environment.
After some research, I found that beer manufacturing is one of the largest water wasting industries in the world, even today. According to data, they also have a big carbon footprint. From packaging to production.
One bottle of Beer (355ml) has the same CO2 footprint as driving for 1.3 km. One bottle.
Who would have thought. Right?
Interestingly enough BrewDog invested in decreasing their Carbon Footprint by introducing few electric trucks and vans in 2020 for beer delivery. Unfortunately, that’s only for two cities in UK and it’s only a part of the problem. This is a great initiative on their part, but it’s mostly PR. Maybe they are doing more for the environment, and that’s great.
I love beer and I understand it needs to be produced somehow, just like everything else. But I found this topic interesting so here is some data.
